What is Art?
Art involves creativity. It is something created in many different forms. It can be portrayed in music and/or visually. It is something that one creates from imagination. Art is to be appreciated and admired for its creativity. I am always inspired by music. I think music is a very good form of art. Listening to music while creating different artworks such as video editing or drawing can help keep the creative side of my brain going. I video edit as a hobby and I think that also fits in the art category. I use music that fits the different images used in the video. Drawing/painting is also art. I have always viewed art as drawings and paintings. But that view of mine has changed. To me, art can be anything that is pleasing to my eyes. For example, if I see a really good food presentation, I would consider it as art. It takes creativity and thought to create a presentation.
What is Design?
Design is something created in a new, creative and smart way. It doesn't necessarily have to be never done before, but made in my style. I can be inspired, but using different elements and ideas to make it look different. I can make different designs based on one idea. I've designed logos and I think it's pretty difficult to design them. It takes a lot of thinking. In the end, I'm almost always proud of my design. It takes a lot of time, dedication, and creativity/brain power. If it's a design I don't really like, then I should find out what I didn't like about the design and make sure that next time I won't repeat the same mistake or idea because it slows me down and takes away my motivation to keep designing. Something really important to me to keep designing is to take care of my mental and physical wellbeing. If not taken care of, I could be on an art block which destroys my flow and ideas.

What is Craft?
Craft involves making things, it can be making art, making designs, making food, etc. It is an activity and can be used in different scenarios. I need to have a bit of skill in the area to be able to craft something. I craft video edits. I make them from scratch, excluding the audio. I have to make the transitions manually and insert the clips and position them manually. I also have to create the composition and crop the video length time manually. Making effects manually can sometimes be difficult because it's from scratch. Video editing takes time. Craft also takes time. I think things that are done in a very little amount of time shouldn't be considered as craft. Craft sounds like a more artistic way of "make."
What is the Relationship Between Creativity and Knowledge?
Creativity and knowledge are something you can use together when working on an artistic project. At times, creativity doesn't necessarily require knowledge because it comes from your imagination. But sometimes, the way you portray creativity requires knowledge in a way. For example, if you decide to use an artistic theory or some of the same sort, you can use the creativity and knowledge you've gathered to work around that plan and create a solution. Another example I can relate to is using my creativity to work on an assignment. It's an assignment based on cubism. I need to research what cubism is so I don't do the assignment incorrectly. And by knowing what cubism is, I can craft something based on cubism while being creative.
Creativity is different from knowledge because as stated previously, you don't necessarily need to have knowledge to be creative in certain situations. The creative and artistic part of your mind can be free to do whatever you think looks best. You don't need to think too hard about it and just let your mind flow. It's different from knowledge because you have to stop and think about what fits and what doesn't.
Knowledge can be a difficult thing to work with sometimes. You have an idea but you can't really picture that idea without having the knowledge on how to create something. Working digitally requires knowledge. Being assigned a project requires knowledge. You need to know what tools work best for what you're trying to accomplish.

hello! i'm a student majoring in graphic design at University of the Pacific. i never thought i would be majoring in graphic design. i took 2 graphic design classes in high school and was in a health/medical association program (HOSA) aiming to be in the medical field at first. but then i realized how i didn't enjoy learning in the program and that i wasn't dedicated enough to continue in that field. I did well in the program, but it just wasn't for me. so then i got interested in graphic design again. i'm a video editor and it has been getting boring for me, and i thought graphic design and my type of video editing were similar in a way so that's how i decided to major in graphic design. i hope to make my own graphic tees in the future because i love how graphic tees look and wearing a design made by myself would be a cool experience! I have a lot of new ideas I'd like to try out when I get the chance to. i also aspire to be a freelance designer and/or do commissions! i'm not always a creative person but when i finally do get creative and imagine ideas, i get super happy and excited to start on it.

Personal Biography

Hello! My name is Christine Boter. I was born and raised in Stockton, CA. I never would have thought I would go down this creative career path because I don't think I'm that creative... but there are times where I get an overwhelming amount of creative ideas! Maybe I am creative but I just deny it all the time... A favorite hobby of mine and a hobby that I've been doing for a while now is video editing. I do not video edit professionally, it's more of just for fun. I'm excited to incorporate video editing and graphic design together if I get the chance to later in the future. I chose graphic design over Media X because video editing gets stressful for me sometimes and I don't think I'm that dedicated enough to pursue it as an actual career. As for graphic design, I have a little experience in it after taking a few classes in highschool and I'm excited to learn more about it! It sounds fun and I enjoy imagining myself being a graphic designer in the future. I think I have a good sense of design. I aspire to make my own graphic tees in the future and become a freelance designer.
I have several interests in art and design! I love aesthetics/themes and different designs. As in designs, I also mean 3d model designs and not just 2d flat designs. I love all types of art and design. I don't really look too much into abstract art because it doesn't really interest me too much and it requires a good amount of thinking... I think it just depends on how abstract it looks. Lately, I've been interested in 3d model design. Since I have experience in video editing, I have a little bit of knowledge of how 3d model design works. I want to try using the 3d render application called "Blender".
I love art and drawing. I'm extremely bad at drawing though. Especially traditionally. I have a style of drawing I think I'm pretty good at, which is drawing in pen while having a scratchy/messy type style but still clean enough to be able to distinguish what the figure is. I find it better to draw and create art digitally because there are so many tools to help perfect it. There is also cmd+z which I find to be very useful and it even catches me off guard in real life sometimes when I realize I'm unable to cmd+z. I make a lot of mistakes and it's faster to fix those mistakes digitally. I really wish I could draw better but I'm still practicing and hoping I get better over time! I love to see others' art. I follow a lot of artists on social media and wish I could be as good as they are.

Personal Designer Influence
I follow @archfiendco, also known as Abel Emmanuel on Instagram and they are an Art Director for Billboard. They are my designer/artist influence. They make 3D designs and sculptures that are really well-made and very unique. I became more in those types of designs and styles once I discovered him. They say they were 101% self-taught, and that is honestly very impressive for the work that they create. I also self taught myself video editing and I’m still improving my skills to this day. I know how difficult it is to self teach yourself something but knowing that they were self-taught himself is actually comforting! I've always wanted to use the program Blender, and they are inspiring me and motivating me to do so. Their style is very chrome/shiny like with a cyber/neo touch to it. They are one of the few designers that I enjoy who makes futuristic designs like those. I aspire to create designs similar to theirs one day because I genuinely enjoy how the style looks. It seems really fun to work with!
They influence me in a way to keep learning. They have mentioned that their designs have gone through a lot of trial and error. Even though they're big and famous, they still remains humble and true to themselves. I have one of their wallpaper designs as my homescreen currently. And one of their works is actually my profile picture for my u.pacific.edu account!
I've never really thought deeply about any influencers or people I look up to, but now that I'm into graphic designing and art, I can proudly say that Abel is one of my biggest inspirations and motivations as of right now
Here is their linktree!
I have another designer that inspires me, @rottilikesrotti on Instagram. Another designer that uses Blender and does 3D Modeling.

Art Philosophy
Art and design makes me feel happy. Whenever I have an idea for something, it makes me motivated to make something good and try to portray the idea in my head as best as possible. When I video edit, it makes me happy to finally put an idea together and when I finish the edit, I feel like I accomplished something. And I think that will also apply to when I start graphic designing.
I want to do design for a long time because it's something that I'm very passionate about. Including the fact that I have experience in video editing, it will be more enjoyable for me because I can incorporate my graphic design skills to video editing as well. I don't enjoy interacting with a huge number of people at a time because I have social anxiety and prefer to not work with people face to face all the time... and graphic design requires a little amount of that which I'm fine with. Kind of fits my ideal job.. and I'd say I'm pretty good at working technical stuff also.
Art and design drives me because of the happiness I feel when doing it. I've always wanted a job that I actually enjoy doing instead of working for money. I think these particular subjects are what I'm best at compared to other subjects such as math.
Something about art and design makes me tick. I love seeing things that are aesthetically pleasing to my eyes. I love to admire art, to see the story behind it, the elements behind it, the creativity behind it... Personally, I love listening to music and doing art and design. And when I put those two together? The ideas I come up with are endless. I don't think I'm always a creative person, but when I do get ideas, my creativity and imagination overwhelms me. It makes me happy that I have all these ideas.
The most important thing about art and design is the appearance of it all. Different people have different likes and aesthetics, which is why I should find an audience that appreciates how my work looks. I can't just cater to everyone's taste. Having that type of mindset will just only burn me out. I like to experiment new things and see what I like and what works! I think that's a very fun part in graphic designing.
